  • We encourage African investors to invest home
  • We assist startups flourish
  • We motivate the youth
  • We create a better Africa for Africans by Africans

Our Story

Conceived and hosted by Shirley Munja, “The Shirlma Show” is an online talk show that encourages African investors to invest home, assist startups flourish, motivate youth and create, a better Africa for Africans by Africans. Chartered Accountant by profession, Shirley Munjah, is an accomplished Business consultant a gifted motivational speaker. And, while working as a business consultant, circumstances popped up in dealing with a clients’ file that led to debates about what principles and ethics govern the business. This made presenter realise that even professionals are not always clear about the application of principles in their field of expertise. This, combined with an unflinching love for Africa and African people led to the foundation of “THE SHIRLMA SHOW”. Besides, a talk show seemed a perfect opportunity to combine presenter’s knowledge with her passion.

Our Vision

The Shirlma Show’s vision is an Africa with low unemployment, where young people are engaged, where communities have access to relevant innovations for self-determination, and where African solutions are unleashed to solve African problems. We believe that African Youth will change their communities for the better. We believe that entrepreneurship is a backbone to a thriving economy, and can unlock pathways to greater resources, dignity, and innovation. We envision, creating an entrepreneurial spirit in Africans by supporting business ideas and startups with a focus on ethical behavior. Our belief is that, empowering African entrepreneurs is emblematic of our dream Thriving Africa, which positions Africa’s private sector, and most importantly its entrepreneurs, as the catalyst for the social and economic development of the continent.

What We Do

The show aims at reducing unemployment in Africa, we support African youth and business upstarts to build their skills, expand their networks, grow their businesses, and in return create jobs. In doing so, The Shirlma Show works on a three-pronged approach; Inspire by creating a platform, where successful entrepreneurs and businessmen share their success stories, experiences, strategies, challenges and critical information with aspiring business minded youth and entrepreneurs. Secondly, the show provides much needed mentorship to the upstarts, that allows individuals to express their doubts on arising issues and get useful advice from renowned professionals. And last but not the least, the show offers One Million Francs to the business plan voted best by the judges, in terms of ethics showcased (paramount), feasibility (net present value, payback period etc.) and other business analytics. Projects that have already been initiated have preference over Ideas. This show inspires, guides and supports the determined youth to make a difference in theirs and fellow Africans’ life.

Our Motivation

Africa’s population is young and growing, aging into the workforce faster than jobs are being created. Entrepreneurs with SME (small-to-medium sized enterprises) businesses are best positioned to create jobs, but lack the skills and resources needed to do so. The Shirlma Show offers practical measures focused on sustainable business growth leading to improved lives and communities. In Cameroon today, only a handful of graduates succeed in getting jobs, within a year of their graduation. Those, who succeed, are often subjected to worst working environments. Ironically, with thousands of students graduating every year, in Cameroon, common products like toothpicks, fruit Juice, biscuits, home decors, etc, manufactured from raw materials present in Cameroon, are still imported. This is not due to any lack of ability, but the lack of opportunity. This Show will provide an opportunity for our youths to think out of the box and bring out ideas that will not only help them get employed but ideas that will be sustainable and ethical, leading to the growth of an economy worthy of our kids.
